A second UBurger could open on the BU campus as soon as April.

In the beginning, there was the West Campus Burger. Soon, the famed dining hall creation will have competition, as a meat patty hailed as "above all burgers" moves down the B Line.

A second UBurger location is scheduled to open as soon as April, restaurant co-owner Nick Kesaris said. The burger joint, which Kesaris and co-owner Spiro Kouvlis call a "fast food alternative," will be located on Commonwealth Avenue near Agganis Arena.

The original UBurger, which opened about a year and a half ago, is located in Kenmore Square and is a popular spot for many Boston University students, with more than 500 daily orders, Kouvlis said.

Kouvlis and Kesaris, two college buddies, said they had not planned to open another restaurant for another year, but business had grown too big for just the Kenmore Square location.

"We've outgrown this place," Kesaris said of the current restaurant.

Kesaris said the new location will provide much needed storage room for the operation and a chance to expand patronage beyond the student population.

"We expect [the new location] to be busier than the [Kenmore location] because West Campus has four to five times the number of students than East Campus and also it's closer to a residential area," Kesaris said.

Kesaris said he is not worried about competition from the West Campus dining hall or other nearby restaurants because there are no other burger restaurants in the area. Kouvlis said UBurger's meat preparation methods make its burgers superior.

"We grind our own meat and make our own patties," Kouvlis said. "We use the freshest ingredients."

"We didn't want to open a gourmet burger place," Kesaris said.

He said they wanted to make a fast food place that would be an upgrade from McDonald's.

College of Fine Arts sophomore Becky Hoffman-Senn said she thinks UBurger burgers are better than the competition.

"I only had a West Campus Burger once and I thought it was really bad so I think [UBurger is] a lot better," she said. "And they're pretty cheap."

The only thing that would make UBurger's offerings better is if the restaurant accepted BU dining points, Hoffman-Senn said.

I'm surprised they are putting it so close to the original.
